Our computer has been dead for two weeks. Of course this doesn't explain the fact that I haven't posted since Bush was in office.
Back to the point. Our computer has been dead for two weeks. Two weeks may not seem like a long time. But when you're without your primary method for communication and information gathering, you're really up a creek!
I tried and tried to get us back up. [If you're not a nerd, then skip to the next paragraph] The computer wasn't even booting into Safe Mode. I tried messing with the Repair Console, but thanks to XP not responding to what I'M SURE was the admin password, there was not much to be done. In a last ditch effort, I downloaded a free boot-up utility at our neighbor's house that seemed very promising. If only I had paid the $80 to get the full version, maybe I could have actually restored our computer. Defeated and realizing that I know too much to be dangerous but don't know enough to actually be helpful, I surrenedered. Call in the professionals!
Thankfully, Geeks on Patrol (owned by the husband of a co-worker of Scott's) got us back up and running. System files were corrupted. All of our data was saved (years of digital pictures... i had an external drive that i hadn't yet hooked up to the computer sitting next to the computer as the pc died. doesn't help if the drive isn't connected to the computer) and we are now restoring software, settings, and blah blah blah to the newly reformatted drive. Sure it's a pain, but I'm just so grateful to God that our pictures are safe.
I will say that, if it weren't for my super-duper iPhone, I would have gone out and bought a computer on a credit card. Probably a stolen credit card. That I had stolen. Desperate times call for desparate measures, my friend.
Thankfully it didn't come to that and I do have my super-duper iPhone. Which I highly recommend by the way. I'm not a gadget girl. Really. But the iPhone? Wow.
That's all for now, gentle reader. I've got settings to restore and hockey to watch.

nicole,
you make me laugh so much! i really, really, really desire to spend time with you! i think the 4 of us (+ kiddos, of course) should hang out sometime in the near future. what do you think? i really do miss the stonehouses! :)
Last Fall our computer crashed and it was several weeks until Joel got it fixed again. So I can totally relate to you and about going crazy without internet! It was amazing, though, how much other stuff I got done. :-)
