Whew! It's been nice to relax today. We've had a very long weekend! Scott's brother Steve and his fiancee Maria got married Saturday afternoon at a beautiful church in Fort Worth.
Things started with Scott's parents dropping by the house on Friday afternoon to see the kids for a few minutes. Here is Lin feeding Claire:
Cade was the ring bearer in the wedding on Saturday and looked so dapper in his tux! Cade stated that the tux made him look "cool." A few shots of Cade & Scott in their tuxes.
Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of the wedding (the lighting was bad in the church and flashes weren't allowed to be used for pictures at the altar), but trust me, it was a beautiful church! I think the marker outside said that St. Patrick's Cathedral had been built in in the late 1880s.
And then later, the reception was held at a huge Vietnamese restaurant (Steve's wife is Vietnamese). Now these people know how to party. The reception started at 7 PM. At 8, the nine-course sit down dinner started. Somewhere around the 3rd or 4th course, the traditional tea ceremony took place; this normally is done on the morning of the wedding, with the groom and his family coming to the bride's house to do the ceremony. But Steve & Maria wanted to keep to the Western tradition of the bride & groom not seeing each other before the wedding. So they did it at the reception. Basically, the parents and grandparents of the bride & groom sit in chairs, and the bride & groom kneel and serve them tea. It's a way of honoring the parents & grandparents. And then the parents & grandparents give the bride & groom advice and words of wisdom for their new life together. Pretty cool tradition!
Lots of other things took place as well (cake cutting, wedding party going to each table for a toast of the couple and the giving of cash gifts, etc.) But by 10:30 PM, Cade & I were starting to tank and it was time to go. Steve & Maria were just now doing their first dance, so the real party hadn't even begun. I'm guessing that the party went on until at least midnight. That's a five hour reception. I bet Steve & Maria were exhausted!!!
Congrats Steve & Maria!
